"Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness."
- Letter from Thomas Jefferson to George Washington (1787)
"Many organic practices simply make sense, regardless of what overall agricultural system is used. Far from being a quaint throwback to an earlier time, organic agriculture is proving to be a serious contender in modern farming and a more environmentally sustainable system over the long term."
- David Suzuki
Hesperides Organica Farm, established in 2007, is located in the “Black Dirt” region of Orange County, NY. This fertile soil was formed 12,000 years ago when the glaciers receded leaving behind deep layers of decayed plant matter. While other farmland may contain 5 percent organic matter, the black dirt or “muck soil” as the locals call it, contain 50-90 percent organic matter. It’s basically a big bowl of compost!
We are fortunate to be able to grow a variety of vegetables, flowers and herbs on this extremely rich soil. There’s nothing really better than a “black dirt” potato!
We sell our produce through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) where members receive a box of freshly-harvested, sustainably grown vegetables. We think our produce is the next best thing to growing your own and with a lot less work.
